Carlos Taylhardat III

"I don't often refer to myself as Carlos A. Taylhardat III, but I have chosen to do so here because of a family heritage I carry with immense pride. My story—and the mission of this platform—is rooted in a lineage of warriors, poets, and diplomats."

The Lawyer who Fought the Church

My grandfather, the first Carlos Alberto Taylhardat, was a lawyer in Maracay, Venezuela. During the Great Depression, he risked everything to expose a high-ranking individual within the Catholic Church for the sexual abuse of children. It was a battle that was as unpopular as it was dangerous. It cost him his job and his ability to support his children for years, but he refused to yield. Against all odds, he triumphed, teaching our family that the truth is worth any price.

The Poet and the Soldier

The fire ran on both sides. His mother was a warrior of words—a famous poet who championed women’s rights when such voices were often silenced. My father continued this tradition of service in a different arena. He began his military training in Rome during WWII, even attempting to join the Allies to fight for democracy.

His life was a series of narrow escapes and principled stands: he survived being shot in the back of the head, endured 2.5 years as a political prisoner under the dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez, and served as a high-ranking naval officer and ambassador. His final "adventure" took place in the 1990s; while serving as the Venezuelan Ambassador during the first Gulf War, he was forced to walk from Iraq to Syria in his mid-seventies due to the overwhelming risks of the conflict.

A Legacy of Perspectives

This heritage of political courage extends to my maternal grandfather, who represented the opposition and ran for the Presidency of the Dominican Republic.

I dedicate 3 Narratives News to this legacy. In a world of "echo chambers," we provide a space for complex news to be simplified through two contrasting lenses, empowering you to find the third.
